Tentoonstellingen in Palazzo Strozzi, Firenze

Palazzo Strozzi is een renaissancepaleis in het oude centrum van Firenze. Tegenwoordig fungeert het als tentoonstellingsruimte voor grote tentoonstellingen. Het paleis werd gebouwd in opdracht van de Florentijnse koopman Filippo Strozzi (1428-1491). De Strozzi's waren een van de rijkste families van de stad en belangrijke rivalen van de Medici's. De bouw begon in 1489 onder leiding van de broers Giuliano da Sangallo (1443-1516) en Benedetto da Maiano (1442-1497). Na de dood van Benedetto da Maiano nam Simone del Pollaiolo (1457–1508) het project over. Hij werkte er tot 1504 aan. Uiteindelijk werd de bouw in 1538 afgerond. De Strozzi's hielden het paleis in bezit tot 1937, toen ze het aan de Italiaanse staat schonken. Sinds 1999 is Palazzo Strozzi onder beheer van de stad Firenze. Het is nu een museum waar jaarlijks verschillende tentoonstellingen worden gehouden. Het is ontegensprekelijk een van de toonaangevende publieksgerichte plaatsen voor klassieke, én hedendaagse kunst geworden in Italië. Er waren mooie tentoonstellingen te zien over Donatello, Verrocchio, Natalia Goncharova en Amerikaanse kunstenaars uit de Walker collectie. Maar ook hedendaagse kunstenaars als Anselm Kiefer, Helen Frankenthaler, Tracey Emin, Anish Kapoor, Bill Viola, Marina Abramovic en Olafur Eliasson stelden er tentoon. Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi Sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog is het Palazzo de grootste tijdelijke tentoonstellingsruimte van Firenze. Tot de belangrijkste tentoonstellingen die in het Palazzo Strozzi zijn gehouden, behoren de Peggy Guggenheim Collection (1949), 17th century Florence (1986), Gustav Klimt (1992), La Natura Morta Italiana (2003), Botticelli e Filippino Lippi, Leon Battista Alberti (2006) en Cézanne in Florence. Sinds juli 2006 heeft de Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi met succes een rijk en innovatief programma van tentoonstellingen, evenementen en activiteiten ontplooid in de verschillende delen van het Palazzo, zoals de Piano Nobile, de Strozzina en de binnenplaats. In november 2007 werden de ruimten onder de binnenplaats heropend als het Centrum voor Hedendaagse Cultuur Strozzina (CCCS).
