The splendid location over the city Florence gave the Villa it’s original name, Villa Belvedere. Villa Bardini today brings to mind the Casini di Deliziadeveloped as relaxation homes around Florence between the end of the 16th and first half of the 17th centuries. These homes were traditionally surrounded by expansive tracts of land serving agricultural and ornamental purposes.[2]

The Giardino Bardini is an Italian Renaissance garden of the Villa Bardini in the hilly part of Oltrarno, offering some of the finest views of Florence. Opened only recently to the public, it is one of Florence's well-kept secrets.
The garden extends over a wide hilly area from the slopes of Piazzale Michelangelo to the Arno, between Piazza dei Mozzi, Via de 'Bardi, costa Scarpuccia, costa San Giorgio and via di Belvedere (with two entrances), for a total area of about 4 hectares.
Access is gained via the Via de' Bardi, just over the road from the Museo Bardini in the Oltrarno district of the city, although the garden's exit onto the Costa di San Giorgio, onto which the Forte di Belevedere and the Giardino di Boboli connect in turn.

The Garden
The garden is composed of three separate areas, each created in a different time period, which adds to the architectural and agricultural diversity.
The most scenic part of the garden remains the large Baroque staircase which culminates in a small building-belvedere, the Loggetta di Villa Bardini, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city. This small building brings to mind the Casini di Delizia developed as relaxation homes around Florence between the end of the 16th and first half of the 17th centuries [2].
Nearby are six fountains decorated with mosaics. There are numerous roses and irises planted, in addition to hydrangeas and other decorative plants. In the lower part there is a green theater, obtained in the vegetation in a concavity of the land.
The park's center contains the grand baroque staircase that was constructed in the 17th century. On one side of the staircase, you can find the English Garden created in the 19th century. Its exotic elements, represent a rare example of an Anglo-Chinese garden. The other side of the staircase hosts the garden's agricultural park, in which an orchard and the iconic wisteria pergola are located.
The garden boasts many statues and panoramic views over the city. Wildlife in the garden includes rock pigeons, blackbirds, and woodpigeons.

The Bardini Museum
|
Stefano Bardini (1836–1922) was an Italian connoisseur and art dealer in Florence who specialized in Italian paintings, Renaissance sculpture, cassoni and other Renaissance and Cinquecento furnishings and architectural fragments. In 1881 Bardini acquired the deconsecrated church and convent of San Gregorio facing piazza dei Mozzi in the Oltrarno and set about transforming it into his opulent residence and restoration studio, Palazzo Bardini, now housing the Museo Bardini, with his collections.

Oltrarno and San Niccolò
Oltrarno, (or beyond the Arno), is one of Florence’s most authentic neighbourhoods. Oltrarno’s three historic quarters, San Niccolò, Santo Spirito, and San Frediano, are hip and trendy corners, hidden away from the tourist crush. The bars and terraces that are mainly visited by the working locals in the morning and at noon, are populated by young people in the evening. In this district you will also find the only city beach of Florence, Spiaggia sull'Arno, where you can sunbathe in the summer. River Urban Beach Terrazza Marasco is a great place to enjoy a relaxing, open-air sunset along the river banks.
A pleasant walk in the heart of the left bank of the Arno river, takes you from the Ponte Vecchio all the way up to Piazzale Michelangelo.
You can walk up from Porto San Niccolò along the Viale Giuseppe Poggi.
We descend the hill along the stairs of Scalea del Monte alle Croci, Via di Belvedere, Via San Leonardo, with its unique and poetic character, and arrive at Forte Belvedere, Porta San Giorgio and the entrance of the Bardini and Boboli Gardens.
