Florence is filled with many other churches stuffed with some of the finest art in the world: San Miniato al Monte, San Lorenzo, Santa Maria Novella, Santa Trinita, the Brancacci Chapel at Santa Maria della Carmine, Santo Spirito, SS Annunziata, Ognissanti, and Santa Croce.
A greenery and pleasant walk takes you from Ponte Vecchio to Piazzale Michelangelo, with its breathtaking views over the city of Florence and the reproduction of David, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created in marble between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo.

On top of the Piazzale Michelangelo you can enjoy the most beautiful panorama of the city, with views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore, the Uffizi, Santa Croce and the Palazzo Vecchio.
In her fascinating and highly informative biography of Florence, The Stones of Florence, Mary McCarthy writes:
«Viewed from across the river, at Piazzale Michelangelo, where a copy of ‘David’, the Giant-Killer, stands, Florence appears a level city, whose uniform low sky line is only broken by the civic tower of Palazzo Vecchio, by the Bargello, by the three great domes of Brunelleschi – the Duomo, San Lorenzo, and Santo Spirito – and by the bell towers of the Duomo, the Badia, and of the two churches of the preaching orders – Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce. From the time of Arnolfo di Cambio, who began work on the Duomo in 1296, just after the fall of the second democracy, a characteristic trait of Florentine.»[2]
