Sant'Angelo in Colle perches atop the Tuscan hills, a gem gleaming in the warm embrace of the Italian countryside. As I wander through its winding streets, I am transported to a realm where time dances lazily, following its own rhythm. Cobblestones hum with ancient secrets, whispering tales of love, loss, and resilience.
Administratively a frazione of the comune of Montalcino, province of Siena, Sant'Angelo in Colle is located on a small hill approximately 8 km South of Montalcino, and 25 km north of Podere Santa Pia, and is one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany.
Here, in this ethereal union of Sant'Angelo in Colle and Brunello di Montalcino, one can glimpse the everlasting essence of Tuscany. A place where the threads of history, nature, and the human spirit intertwine, weaving a tapestry of beauty and resilience that transcends time itself.
Main sights are the Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo (13th century), Church of Madonna della Misericordia (19th century) and the Church of San Pietro. And some good restaurants.

Il borgo Sant'Angelo in Colle [2]

Here, amidst the rolling vineyards and sun-kissed olive groves, nature and history intertwine with graceful ease. The village exudes an aura of tranquil enchantment, a sanctuary where the spirit finds solace in the simplicity of life's most cherished treasures.
But it is within the vineyards of Sant'Angelo in Colle that one encounters the true nectar of this land: Brunello di Montalcino wine. This crimson elixir flows through the veins of the village, nurturing the dreams and aspirations of its inhabitants. It is as if the very essence of Tuscany is distilled into each ruby-hued drop.
The artistry of the Brunello di Montalcino wine lies not only in its exquisite taste but also in its creation. The Sangiovese grapes, bathed in the Tuscan sun, are meticulously handpicked and lovingly nurtured. Time, the gentle alchemist, then takes over, transforming the grapes into a symphony of flavors. As the wine matures in oak barrels, it absorbs the whispers of history, a subtle homage to the land that birthed it.
When finally poured into a glass, Brunello di Montalcino unveils its essence with an intoxicating elegance. Each sip tells a story, a complex narrative of earthy notes entwined with hints of cherry, plum, and spice. It is a dance of flavors upon the palate, a moment of sensory awakening that lingers, inviting one to savor the beauty of the present.

Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in all of Italy, and for good reason. Produced in the southern region of Tuscany, this wine is the pinnacle of Sangiovese-based wines, and a true representation of the terroir and winemaking traditions of the Montalcino region.
Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown on the hills surrounding the town of Montalcino. The wine is aged for a minimum of two years in oak barrels, followed by a further four months of bottle aging before it is released to the market. The result is a wine that is deep, complex and rich, with a distinctive bouquet of red berries, leather, and tobacco, and a long, silky finish.
The production of Brunello di Montalcino is strictly regulated by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, ensuring that only the highest quality grapes are used and that the wine is made in accordance with traditional winemaking methods. The result is a wine that is consistently of the highest quality and truly represents the unique terroir of the region.
The area of Sant’Angelo in Colle comprises some of Brunello’s leading estates such as Castello di Argiano, Col d'Orcia, Poggio alla Mura, Collemattoni, La Poderina, Lisini, Corte dei Venti, Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona and Tenuta Il Poggione.

Caffè Sant'Angelo offers the authentic and familiar atmosphere of a Tuscan trattoria or osteria. Pino and Daniela, two people of great culture and sensibility, he from Aquila, she of Amatrice, are running this magical place, where each guest can feel at ease. Pino and Daniela offer a diverse array of dishes that draw on different traditions of Italian regional cuisines (especially Tuscany and northern Lazio, traditional dishes, with an extraordinary touch of creativity).
This is a place where Italians come, where local wine growers bring their own wines to compare and taste them with some pretty spectacular food.
Try the Tortino di Pecorino, the Spaghetti all'amatriciana, the peposo antico and la torta peperina. The vino sfuso housewine is very good, and Pino also offers a small but precious collecion Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino of some of his wine-growing neighbours.
