Sant’Angelo in Colle, frazione van Montalcino

Podere Santa Pia is located in a strategic position, only a short distance from a large number of sites of historical and cultural interest. Numerous towns and villages offer a treasure trove of history and are waiting to be discovered. Drive through the magnificent hills of the Montecucco wine region all the way to Montalcino, and enjoy the beauty of villages and hamlets along the way. Take a stop at Castel Porrona, still preserving its noble appearance with timeless style and grace, then continue to Castelnuovo dell’Abate where the travertine romanesque church Abbazia di Sant’Antimo is an absolute must. Then loop back on the strada bianche or dirt road to Sant’Angelo in Colle and have lunch at Il Pozzo or Il Leccio. For a truly Italian atmosphere, try Caffè Sant'Angelo in the nearby Sant'Angelo Scalo. The food is prepared by Daniella Bucci, and is served by Pino, hence the commonly used name da Pino.

Sant'Angelo Scalo

There is nothing to see here, (except for a beautiful old railway station), there is nothing to experience. A good reason for choosing a table on the terrace in Caffè Sant'Angelo, better known as da Pino, and watch Italian life.
The atmosphere on the terrasse couldn't be more typical for a small Italian village.
Every morning, Pino writes four menus on the simple table paper. Set menu values include Tortino di Pecorino, the Spaghetti all'amatriciana, a peposo antico and la torta peperina a.o.
Simple, delicate dishes from Daniela's golden hands. This is a place where Italians come, where local wine growers bring their own wines to compare and taste them with some pretty spectacular food.

Inside there is a nice photo from Daniele's childhood in Amatrice, some lithographs by Calder and stills from Scarface and Taxi Driver, a few souvenirs. Alan Rickman, who spent many summers in Campagnatico, was a regular guest.
Caffè Sant'Angelo is a place that breathes authenticity. There is always a relaxing atmosphere, including amiable conversation, made possible by the small number of seats (17 people is the limit) and excellent dishes.
This is a place where Italians come and keep coming back.

Sant'Angelo Scalo Station and the Nature Train

La stazione di Sant'Angelo-Cinigiano station is a railway station located in Sant'Angelo Scalo, and served at the time the municipalities of Montalcino and Cinigiano. Currently, it is onlyused for the Nature Train, organised by FTI.
The Treno Natura is an unconventional way to explore the uniqueness of Tuscany’s landscape. The itineraries start from Siena and take place on a vintage steam train, which brings visitors into the territories of the Val d’Orcia, the slopes of Monte Amiata and the Crete Senesi, making stops at the traditional sagre or festivals dedicated to local specialities, truffles in San Giovanni d’Asso, mushrooms in Vivo d’Orcia, and olive oil (Seggiano), wine (Sant’Angelo Scalo), chestnuts and cheese.
