Itinerary in the great scenery of the Val d’Orcia. This is a lovely walk connecting Bagno Vignoni with Vignoni Alto, the upper side of the village. Starting from Bagno Vignoni, this itinerary follows the Orcia River some ways and then incorporates the tiny, towered hamlet of Vignoni Alto before again descending into Bagno Vignoni. An extended hike connects this track with a climb
to Ripa d'Orcia and Rocca d'Orcia, returning to Bagno Vignoni where we can admire the newly built pedestrian bridge, an impressive arched wooden bridge built on top of the old foundations of a Roman brigde.

Bagno Vignoni, a thermal resort renown since the Middle Ages because of its position on the old via Francigena, is definitely worth a visit. The main square is a pool 49 meters long and 29 wide in which thermal water is collected. The famous visitors have included St Catherine of Siena, Pope Pius II, Lorenzo Il Magnifico as well as the Russian film director Andrej Tarkóvskij's film Nostalgia here.
