The property of Podere Santa Pia lies on the hills overlooking the Valle d’Ombrone, a beautiful and miraculously intact valley in Southern Tuscany. From here you may embark on a culinary and cultural journey through southern Tuscany. In cities like Montalcino, Pienza, and Siena you can admire the architectural masterpieces of Italian architecture. In the south, you can follow tracks of the Etruscan culture in Sorano, Pitigliano, and Sovana, and Montemarano is home to a two-star restaurant you don't want to miss.
Montalcino and the Abbey of Sant'Antimo are only 20 minutes from your holiday residence in Tuscany and offer many hiking trails.

Montalcino and the Anello di Sant’Antimo

Two of the best hiking routes in Montalcino are the walk from Montalcino to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo and the Anello Sant’Antimo, a circular walk starting and ending at the abbey. An itinerary in the great scenery of shaded woodland and Brunello vineyards surrounding the Abbey of Sant'Antimo in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, through biodiverse landscape encompassing some farms and woodlands too.
There is no difficulty in following the track.

This itinerary starts at the very impressive Romanesque Abbey of Sant'Antimo.

You can visit this beautiful abbey before or after your walk.
You walk along dirt roads, through vineyards and woodlands to the simple beauty of the small pieve in Villa a Tolli.

In Castelnuovo dell’Abate you can take a bus back to Montalcino. The bus stop is in front of Trattoria Bassomundo. If you are by car, parking your car in the village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate is an option to consider. Parking prices near the abbey are substantial.

Make some time to enjoy an exclusive wine tours and tasting experiences in the valleys surrounding the abbey. You are in the midst of some great wineries: the area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate comprises some of Brunello’s leading estates such as Poggio di Sotto, Ciacci Piccolomini (Località Molinello) and Uccelliera Di Cortonesi Andrea (45 Localita' Pod. Uccelliera). Plan in advance to arrange a visit to one of these great Brunello wineries. Or take a walk on the strada bianche or dirt road to Sant’Angelo in Colle and have lunch at Il Pozzo or Il Leccio, or go to Pino in Sant'Angelo Scalo for delicious everyday fare.
A map with some of the most particular wineries on the southern slopes of Montalcino can be found here. Best restaurants in the Montalcino area can be found here.
