Itinerary in the great scenery of the Crete Senesi (literally Sienese clays) noted for its dramatic landscape, just about 40 km north of Podere Santa Pia. There is no difficulty in following the track.
This itinerary starts in Buonconvento, near the Porta Senese (Via Soccini), and we leave the city through the gate, crossing Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi (parking) to Via dei Macelli. We follow the asphalt road with indications of the Abbey, and after about 1.5 km, we turn right and follow the very nice dirt road to Chiusure. Just before the village wonderful views on the Crete Senesi and the abbey open up on your left.1

Enjoy a lunch in Locanda Paradiso (Via Porta Senese 25) in Chiusure or Ristorante La Torre in Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
From Chiusure you continue to the abbey on asphalt road. When you reach the cemetery, cutting a hairpin on your left, and walk to the entrance of the Abbey and Ristorante La Torre, a good alternative for your lunch.
From here you continue on a long avenue lined with cypress trees until you reach the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, a large Benedictine monastery surrounded by cypress trees and the famous biancane of the Crete Senesi. Do not miss the frescoes by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma in the cloisters.

Casa Vacanze Podere Santa Pia is a beautiful stone farmhouse located in a strategic position, only 2 km away from Castiglioncello Bandini, on a hill overlooking both the Val d'Orcia and the Valle d’Ombrone. A winding scenic road, just outside the village of Castiglioncello Bandini, is leading to this former cloister, hidden in a seduced valley.
The main house is spacious, comfortable and well furnished and offers its guests a breathtaking view over the Maremma hills. Podere Santa Pia is surrounded by a backdrop of hills and macchia mediterranea: wild, untamed and completely natural vegetation, wonderful for walking and exploring on a variety of different terrain with fantastic views everywhere you turn.
