Bolgheri is located in the comune of Castagneto Carducci, a few kilometers north-west of the chief town and lies in the Province of Livorno in Italy, in the foothills of the Colline Metallifere, south of Bibbona.
Bolgheri and the Viale dei Cipressi
Bolgheri is located south of Livorno, near the coast. Here the most expensive wines from Italy are produced, with names such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Guado al Tasso. The Viale di Cipressi runs right through the DOC Bolgheri wine area. It is an imposing avenue, which is no less than 4 km long. There are about 2,400 cypresses planted along the road.
Giosuè Carducci wrote a long poem about the Viale di Cipressi, . You can read the poem here. Giosuè Carducci was one of the defining figures of resurgent classicism in the 19th century and lived in this region for a long time. To commemorate him, Giuseppe Della Gherardesca in 1908, a year after the death of the poet, placed a small obelisk on the other side of the Viale dei Cipressi, near the Oratorio di San Guido.

The estate Castello Bolgheri
The Castello Bolgheri estate extends around the Castle for an area of 130 hectares, 50 of which are covered by vineyards; the rest is made up of areas cultivated with 6,000 olive plants, sown grounds and woods. Both sides of the farm are adjacent to the famous cypress road extolled in the poetry of Giosuè Carducci. You can read his long poem here.
The vineyards
Starting in 1997, the vineyards were planted by Clemente Zileri and his son Federico with the principal varieties called for in the specifications for Bolgheri wines with the DOC (certificate of controlled origin) certification: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Bolgheri Castle's vineyards are found on the outskirts of the village of the same name, facing southwest, and the rows, which are perpendicular to the sea, benefit from the afternoon wind during the hot summer days.
